Last Tuesday, David Bowie revealed the video for his bright single The Stars (Are Out Tonight), starring Bowie himself and androgynous and wonderful actress Tilda Swinton. On February 28th, his upcoming album The Next Day was made available for full streaming, two weeks ahead its release date by mid March and 10 years after his previous album, Reality (2003). Improve your Monday and listen to it immediately ;), for free, via iTunes

Rumor has it that Bowie won’t tour for this album, which is a real shame ‘cause it’s brilliant and it would be not only wonderful but also interesting to watch him sing some of its songs. Anyway, we’ll have to simply listen to it over and over again and enjoy the result of two years of top secret recording sessions produced by longtime coworker Tony Visconti.

That being said, xoxo…

Pre-gig songbook: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Red Hot Chili Peppers by Ellen Von Unwerth

Red Hot Chili Peppers by Ellen Von Unwerth

The California based band Red Hot Chili Peppers continue this year their I’m With You Tour . Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th March are possibly the most expected days for us, their Mexican fans, who will attend at least one of their gigs at the Palacio de los Deportes, especially because we had to wait 6 long years for them to come back to our beloved Big City.

…Well, to be honest, I had the chance to see them performing last summer at Lollapalooza and I loved them :D! But their gig wouldn’t have been as exciting if I hadn’t known by heart the lyrics to most of their songs. As a non native English speaker, I enjoy far more those gigs in which I can actually sing along with the band and reinterpret my favorite songs.

Therefore, I decided to start a new section in my slowly rekindled blog. The section is called Pre-gig Songbook, and I intend to write one related post per gig I attend from now on… And yeah, I’m fully aware of the risk that it is to name this section using a somewhat awkward grammatical construction but hey, this is my blog! 😛

So I did my research and, in a very general way, I bet that the following 13 songs (which you can listen to as a playlist via my Youtube channel by clicking here) will definitely be part of their setlist. I added two more songs at the end that I wish they’ll play. Anyway, memorize the lyrics or at least read them if you haven’t just yet and see you at The Chilis gig!

That being said, xoxo…

  1. Monarchy Of Roses
  2. Around The World
  3. Otherside
  4. Dani California
  5. Can’t Stop
  6. Under The Bridge
  7. Snow (Hey Oh)
  8. Scar Tissue
  9. Californication
  10. By The Way
  11. Look Around
  12. The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie
  13. Give It Away    And two more songs that I wish they’ll perform:
  14. What In The World (David Bowie Cover)
  15. Right On Time

Video: ‘Retrograde,’ by James Blake

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 24 hours, chances are that you’ve already heard James Blake‘s new song, Retrograde, at least 15 times in a row… Well I have…

The track was premiered on Zane Lowe’s broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and, right after the song, James Blake talked about what he tried to do in his new record. Essentially, he stated that he reimagined on the new album, and that his fans are definitely going to notice not only the musical but also the lyrical changes that he made, compared to his well known writing. My expectations are high :).

Retrograde , the first single from James Blake‘s sophomore record, Overgrown (due April 8th), will be released on February 11th. But the day before we’ll all be able to watch via James Blake’s official Youtube Channel the Retrograde video, directed by Martin de Thurah.

That being said, xoxo…

PS Please don’t hesitate to comment on my English vocabulary/grammar/syntax mistakes, I’ll happily learn from all of your comments.

[Update: 10.02.13]

Ignore everybody else, we’re alone now

This black cloud above me is ruthless…

The art of letting go is mastered by few…

ImageBut as painful as losing someone who you still love might be, it’s actually better to call it quits on time before mutual damage grows and saying goodbye becomes extremely grievous.

And like Marilyn Monroe once said, ‘A girl doesn’t need anyone who doesn’t need her.’

So farewell… Farewell to you my first, my one, and my only prince.

I never stopped thinking that you were my very own prince, by the way. I never forgot all the good reasons that I had to start dating you in the first place. I took you just as you are, considering that you were already you when we met and that I probably wouldn’t like you as much if you weren’t you. But most importantly, I don’t think I ever tried to change a thing of you because I loved your imperfection. I loved you. So goodbye after 185 days that meant nothing to you. Goodbye after all those days and nights, and words and silences that were just not enough for you… August 11th 2012 must be an ordinary date for you, whereas for me is the day I took a leap of faith. I fell in love with you. And I’m still painfully in love. But you say this is impossible, so I need to let you go and say goodbye. Goodbye after watching a whole different film during six months, in which I voluntarily fooled myself. Goodbye after writing two sonnets that you never read ‘cause I just didn’t have the chance to hand them to you (as many other chances that you cut off me with a single stroke). And finally, goodbye after crying all my tears from Monday night to Friday Saturday Sunday the following Monday morning in a row …because of you. I miss you :(.

But then again, to paraphrase wise Marilyn, I might never stop loving you; but I’ll just learn to live without you. No matter how long it takes me.

That being it for now, xoxo
